Brennan’s Unique Fertility Journey
Fourteen years ago, my husband Shane and I decided to start a family. Like so many couples, we were filled with excitement and hope, eager to welcome a child into our lives. Our journey began quietly, without much fanfare. After a year of trying to conceive, I turned to my OB-GYN, seeking answers for my irregular cycles and difficulty conceiving. A single round of Clomid and a trigger shot brought us our first miracle—our son, Brek.
At the time, I was just starting my career as a nurse practitioner. I didn’t yet recognize the subtle signs of fertility challenges in my own health. It all seemed straightforward, almost simple, as though we just needed a little nudge. But as my experience in women’s health deepened, so did my understanding of the complexities of fertility. I began to notice patterns in my own cycles—patterns that hinted at underlying issues.
When Shane and I decided to grow our family, I already knew the journey might be harder this time. I had been diagnosed with PCOS and anticipated needing medication again to regulate my cycles. Confident in our previous success, I started down the same path: Clomid. When we discovered I was pregnant after the first round, our joy was uncontainable.
But joy quickly turned to heartbreak. At a routine ultrasound at ten weeks, the air in the room shifted. The sonographer’s face changed, and then I saw it—the unmistakable shape of twins. But neither baby was measuring on track. Neither had a heartbeat. In an instant, our dreams shattered. I knew we had lost them. The grief that followed was profound and consuming.
The years that came next tested us in ways we never imagined. Miscarriage followed miscarriage, each loss a fresh wound on our hearts. Despite my medical background as a fertility nurse practitioner and the incredible support of my colleagues, the emotional toll was immense. Every pregnancy that ended too soon was another wave of heartbreak, another layer of doubt about whether our dream of expanding our family would ever come true.
Eventually, our path led to IVF—a journey that would demand everything we had. The first round of IVF only produced one embryo, which deemed us necessary to do a second round. After 2 rounds of IVF we finally got to do embryo transfer. From the start, it was fraught with challenges: low HCG levels, unexplained bleeding, and an overwhelming fear that this, too, would end in loss. Yet somehow, through a combination of science, faith, and sheer determination, we made it. Our daughter, Berkeley, was born—a living testament to the power of hope and resilience.
Looking back, I know that no fertility journey is ever the same. Each story is shaped by its own struggles and victories, its own unique pain and joy. My journey has taught me more than I could have ever imagined—not just as a nurse practitioner, but as a woman and mother. It has given me a profound empathy for those navigating infertility and a calling to walk alongside them with faith, compassion, and evidence-based care.
This is why I founded Sacred Roots Fertility—to be the support, guide, and advocate I wished I’d had in my darkest moments. To remind you that you are not alone. To help you find hope, healing, and ultimately, the miracle that is waiting for you.
You are not alone in this journey. Together, we’ll walk the path to parenthood with faith, science, and love at the core of everything we do.
